UPS is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods, information and funds. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide and operates the largest franchise shipping chain, The UPS Store™.
I currently hold the position as a Package Planner for the extended Kentucky area. This area consists of nine UPS Package Centers. I have also spent time as a Hub Planner and on a Time Study Team. Industrial Engineers play critical roles in UPS, and have responsibility to:
- Develop operating plans and center plans designed to exceed the Business Plan targets. (Cost, Service, Performance, and Safety). Design effective job setups to perform the job safely and productively.
- Develop accurate work measurement for the most effective operating plan and job setup.
- Provide adequate methods, planning, and technical training.
- Support operations in the implementation of new technologies, procedures, and operation plans that support optimum performance and service and audit for compliance.
My daily activities revolve around the four fundamental activities of Work Measurement, Operating Plans, Training, and Implementation. By making these activities a priority in the daily routine, I am better able to focus on important tasks that pay dividends in reducing cost and service failures.
I regularly use a tool for forecasting daily, monthly, and yearly package volume and package stop trends. These trends are used for various items such as planning driver staffing needs, vehicle inventory, and needs for facility equipment.
I enjoyed the Industrial Engineering program at OU because the faculty was readily available with positive intentions on seeing students excel.
