About the Instructor

Hello, I am Jim Hoefler, your instructor for the Labor Economics correspondence course. I have been associated with Ohio University in various capacities and positions for over thirty years. I try to stay current in my discipline because of the many changes that have taken place in the economy. The role of labor unions, part-time employment, and women in the workplace have been a few of the changes that have had an impact on labor economics. I enjoy teaching and have been more recently interested in providing correspondence courses through e-mail and on the Web. My outside interests include walking, gardening, sports, woodworking, and family.

My family is also closely linked toOhio University. My wife is employed at Ohio University and isa graduate of O.U. My oldest son and daughter have graduated from O.U., and my youngest daughter currently attends O.U. My youngest son, currently in high school, has a lifelong experience with Ohio University through his entire family!

I hope this course will provide you with a framework for abetter understanding of the economics of labor in an ever-changingworld.
