This study guide contains the instructions and lessons for Economics 320W, Labor Economics. General instructions for submitting lessons are given in the Internet Course Handbook. Further information is provided in the sections below.

All information in this "Introduction" is availablefor public viewing.  To view the content of the lessons,however, you must be enrolled in the course.  Clickhere for enrollment information.

PREREQUISITE

The prerequisite for this course issuccessful completion of ECON 103 and 104 (Principles of Economics).

COURSE GOALS

Simply stated, the goal of this courseis to acquaint you with the economic and institutional factorswhich determine conditions of the labor market.

Ehrenberg, Ronald G. and Smith, Robert S., Modern Labor Economics: Theory and Public Policy, 8th ed., Redding, MA: Addisons Wesley.

Ohio University Independent and Distance Learning does not have its own bookstore but uses a mail-order book service:

GRADE DETERMINATION

Lesson assignments are mandatory andwill be calculated as part of the final course grade. The coursegrade will be determined in the following manner:

 Lesson Assignments  20%  Midcourse Exam  40%  Final Exam  40%  Total  100%

I would prefer your lessons be sent one-at-a-time and typed,or at least legibly written. Lesson questions should beincluded with each answer you submit.

My grading scale will be as follows:

 A = 90 & above D = 60 - 69
 B = 80 - 89 F = below 60
 C = 70 - 79  

Final grades will be subject to + or -, such as B+ or C-.

EXAMINATIONS

Each examination will consist of severalshort-essay questions. All materials will be provided to you,and you will be allowed up to two hours to complete each exam.The midcourse examination covers Lessons 1-7 and the final examinationcovers Lesson 9-14.
