COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides a survey of the symptoms, associated characteristics,
demographics, etiology, assessment, and treatment of psychological disorders
occurring in childhood and adolescence. The disorders covered in the course
include anxiety disorders, depression, oppositional defiant disorder,
conduct disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning and
language disorders, mental retardation, autism and other pervasive developmental
disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, elimination disorders, sleep
disorders, and medical conditions affected by psychological factors. Disorders
and their treatment are viewed from biological, psychodynamic, behavioral,
and systems approaches.

NATURE OF THE EXAMINATION
The examination is three hours in length. It consists of multiple choice
and essay questions designed to test your knowledge, understanding, and
ability to apply the material covered in the textbook. You will have some
choice of essay questions.
V.
GRADING CRITERIA
The examination is worth a total of 120 points (90 points for the multiple-choice
questions and 30 points for the essays). Your grade will be assigned on
the basis of the percentage of the available points that you earn on the
examination. The following scale will be used:
