PSY 275 - Educational Psychology
Four Quarter Hours

PREREQUISITES: PSY 101 or an equivalent introductory psychology course. Students cannot receive credit for both this course and EDCI 275.

COURSE OVERVIEW: The course covers psychological theories and models as they apply to teaching and learning. Specific topics include student characteristics and development; diversity among students; models of learning and instruction; instructional planning and the teaching environment; and classroom management and evaluation.

METHODS OF COURSE INSTRUCTION: All material for this course is print-based. Instructor and students communicate and exchange materials through postal mail.

LESSONS AND WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: The four regular lessons have assignments consisting of case study analysis, short-essay questions, and worksheet activities. Each lesson covers several chapters of the textbook.
EXAMINATIONS: The course has supervised midcourse and final examinations, each consisting of multiple-choice questions. The midcourse examination covers Lessons 1 and 2; the final covers Lessons 4 and 5. A self-check sample test is included before each of the examinations. Two hours is allowed for each examination; no texts, notes, or supplementary aids are permitted.

If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail.

GRADING CRITERIA: The final course grade is weighted as follows:

Lesson 1, 2, 4, and 5: 15 percent each

Lessons 3 and 6: 20 percent each
