You will be allowed
three hours to complete the examination. The examination will be Part I (Closed Book) The first part will be closed book and will assess your understanding of basic principles, your ability to compute simple statistical measures, your ability to interpret statistical results, and your knowledge of appropriate statistics to use for different purposes and with data at different levels of measurement. (A summary table of the tests covered in this course and the circumstances under which they are used is provided with this Information Sheet.) The questions on this part of the examination will be multiple choice and short answer. In order to leave yourself sufficient time to complete Part II of the examination, you are advised to complete Part I in approximately 45 minutes. Part II (Open Book) When you hand in Part I, you will be given Part II. The second part of the examination will be open book. You will be able to use the textbook for this part. Part II will test your ability to use the various statistical procedures such as tests of significance, correlation, and regression. You will be expected to set up the statistical tests as illustrated in the Independent-Measures t-Test and Repeated-Measures t-Test pages which follow. A similar format should be used for other statistical tests of significance, although the specific information will vary with the type of test. V.
