203 - Introduction
to Physics

| | PREREQUISITES: Physics 202, h.s. level algebra and trigonometry (no calculus required) | | COURSE OVERVIEW: This course is a continuation of Physics 202 and is open to students from all academic areas. It is especially recommended for students in liberal arts, architecture, industrial technology, botany, geological sciences, and premedicine. The topics covered include light, relativity, quantum mechanics, the physics of the nucleus, and other topics normally grouped into what is known as modern physics. | | METHODS OF COURSE INSTRUCTION: All material for this course is print-based. | LESSONS
AND WRITING ASSIGNMENTS:
The
course consists of twelve lessons, including two supervised
examinations. Each of the ten regular lessons contains matching
questions, multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions,
and problems for which the student is asked to submit answers
to the instructor. |
EXAMINATIONS:
Lessons
6 and 12 are supervised examinations, each lasting three hours.
The final examination (Lesson 12) will cover the entire course.
The questions on the examinations will be similar to those found
in the written assignments.
If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail. | | GRADING CRITERIA: The course will be graded in three equally-weighted portions; the lesson assignments will constitute one portion, and the midcourse examination and final examination will constitute the other two.
