PHYS 202 - Introduction to Physics
Four Quarter Hours

PREREQUISITES: Physics 201

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course is a continuation of Physics 201 and deals with heat, electricity, magnetism, and waves. Students should have high school level algebra and trigonometry, but no calculus is required. The course is open to students from all academic areas and is especially recommended for students in liberal arts, architecture, industrial technology, botany, geological sciences, and premedicine.

METHODS OF COURSE INSTRUCTION: All material for this course is print-based. Instructor and students communicate and exchange materials through postal mail.

LESSONS AND WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: The course consists of fourteen lessons, including two supervised examinations.

Each of the twelve regular lessons contains a writing assignments consisting of multiple-choice and short-answer questions and problems covering the material of the lesson. Assignments are submitted for instructor evaluation.

EXAMINATIONS: There will be supervised midcourse and final examinations, each lasting three hours. The questions on the examinations are similar to those found in the lesson writing assignments with the addition of some matching questions. The final examination is comprehensive, covering all lessons in the course.

If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail.

GRADING CRITERIA: All lesson assignments are graded. The final course grade will be determined equally by the average of lesson grades and the examinations—each element counts one-third.
