ECON 103 - Principles of Microeconomics
Four Quarter Hours

PREREQUISITES: Math 101 or higher math placement.

COURSE OVERVIEW: Microeconomics is the economics of decision making. It deals with how different economic units in a society should behave in order to obtain the maximum benefit from an activity. This introductory course covers the basic theory and analysis of prices, markets, production, wages, interest, rent, and profits.

METHODS OF COURSE INSTRUCTION: All material for this course is print-based. Instructor and students communicate and exchange materials through postal mail.

NUMBER OF LESSONS: The course has twelve lessons, including three supervised examinations.
TYPES OF WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: Each of the nine regular lessons contains a writing assignment consisting of both multiple-choice and short essay/problem questions covering the material of that lesson. These assignments are submitted; six of the assignments receive letter grades.
EXAMINATIONS: This course has three supervised examinations covering specified chapters in the textbook; none is comprehensive.

If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail.
