Overview: This
Web course is a comprehensive introduction to the concepts of
modern-day supervision, emphasizing techniques in the context
of real-life situations. Topics covered include managerial functions;
communication, motivation, planning and decision making; staff
organization, employee selection, orientation and training,
performance appraisal; leadership and handling of discipline,
complaints and grievances; and control of human and material
resources. |

of Course Instruction:
All material for this course is web-based. Instructor and students
communicate through e-mail. Lessons are submitted through the
Web site. |

| Number
of Lessons:
The course has ten lessons, including a comprehensive final
examination. Eight lessons each have several parts; each part
covers one chapter in the text. Lesson 6 covers case studies.

| Types
of Writing Assignments:
Writing assignments in Lessons 1-5 and 7-9 cover all chapters
for those lessons and consist of multiple-choice questions.
Students are encouraged to study the applications cases in each
chapter in preparation for the final examination. The writing
assignment for Lesson 6 consists of essay questions covering
cases. |

Examinations:
The
course has a comprehensive final examination, covering all lessons
of the course, and consisting of multiple-choice questions plus
one short case problem that requires the student to read and
respond to several essay questions about the case.
If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail. |

Grading
Criteria: All
assignments are graded; the course grade is weighted as follows:
Lesson assignments 1-5 & 7-9
30 percent
Lesson 6 Case Analysis
20 percent
Final examination
50 percent
Students must achieve a minimum score of 60 percent on the final
examination in order to pass the course.
The percentage score for the course is converted to a letter
grade on the following scale:
A = 90 percent or above
B = 80-89 percent
C = 70-79 percent
D = 60-69 percent
F = Below 60 percent
Plus and minus grades may be given at the discretion of the
instructor. |
