BIOS 345 - Human Physiology
Four Quarter Hours

PREREQUISITES: This course is intended primarily for students in education, medical technology, physical education, and pre-physical therapy.

Students must have completed one course in anatomy (Ohio University students must take Zoology 300, Anatomy and Physiology, or Zoology 301, Human Anatomy).

COURSE OVERVIEW: The undergraduate course covers functions of various systems in humans with special reference to physiological adaptations to environment.

METHODS OF COURSE INSTRUCTION: All material for this course is print-based. Instructor and students communicate and exchange materials through postal mail.

E-PRINT OPTION
Students may use e-mail to submit lesson assignments, using any e-mail provider and any standard e-mail software. The assignments that are submitted electronically are printed and sent to the instructor by mail, not e-mail, so assignments may be sent as attached documents, thus preserving the original format. Graded assignments will be returned as printed copy by postal mail. Instructions for the e-print option are enclosed with the course guide.

NUMBER OF LESSONS: The course has twenty lessons, including three supervised examinations.
TYPES OF WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: Each lesson has a writing assignment consisting of several short-answer questions covering the material of the lesson.
EXAMINATIONS: This course requires three supervised examinations. Each of three examinations covers about one-third of the course material. Two hours is allowed for each examination; all examinations consist of multiple-choice questions which cover both the textbook readings and the study guide discussion. All materials are provided; no textbooks, notes, or supplementary aids are permitted.

If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail.
GRADING CRITERIA: A numerical score is given to each lesson assignment, with scores of 85-100 equal to A, 75-84 equal to B, 65-74 equal to C, 50-64 equal to D, and below 50 equal to F.

The average of lesson assignment grades and the three examinations each count twenty-five percent of the final grade.

ENROLLMENT INFORMATION: Active Terms: Not term-based; self-paced study. Eight months to finish.
