Health Topics: Drugs: Cocaine

Also known as blow, C, flake, coke, white lady, toot, snow, nose candy & stardust.

Cocaine is a powerful stimulant made from the leaves of the Erythroxylon coco bush.  Cocaine is available in solid form, called rocks, or as flakes or powder.  Cocaine can be administered orally, intranasally, intravenously or inhaled.  Crack is the free base form of cocaine that is smoked.  

Effects
  • Increased energy
  • feeling mentally clear
  • fatigue
  • insomnia
  • paranoia
  • aggression
  • increased blood pressure and/or body temperature
  • dilated pupils
  • decreased appetite
Long Term Effects
  • addiction            
  • irritability and mood swings
  • restlessness

  • auditory hallucinations   
  • heart attack
  • strokes            
  • seizures
  • nausea                
  • abdominal pain
  • lung damage (if snorted)
