The physicians and nurse practitioners who staff the Student Health Service (SHS) provide primary medical care. Such care includes the diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, gynecologic problems, testing and treatment of STIs, physical exams required for academic courses and the suture repair of minor lacerations. The physicians and nurse practitioners will also work with your specialist in the monitoring and evaluation of therapy initiated outside the university health service. When a SHS physician decides that a patient needs specialty care, she or he will make a referral to a specialist. Office visits with the primary medical care providers are at no additional cost to the student.
