Pharmacy FAQ

Am I eligible to use the pharmacy?
If you are enrolled for one (1) or more credit hours, you can obtain both prescription and non-prescription medicines at the Student Health Service pharmacy. You must be enrolled at the time you use the pharmacy. If you have refills on a prescription, but are no longer an Ohio University student, contact us about having your prescription transferred. You might be asked to show photo ID at the time of service.

Do you accept prescriptions from outside physicians?
We accept prescriptions from any physician, or nurse practitioner licensed in the United States. Your health care provider can:
  • give you a written prescription
  • phone a prescription to (740) 593-4738
  • fax a prescription to (740) 597-1834
How do I pay for my prescriptions?
The charge is placed on your student account and payment can be made in person at the Bursar's office in Chubb Hall or by accessing your online account.

Can I use a prescription drug card at the Student Health Service pharmacy?
We are not able to bill your prescription drug card. Instead, we will give you an itemized bill to send to the company that provides your prescription drug coverage.  Each time you have a prescription filled you do receive information that you can use to bill your insurance company or prescription drug coverage plan.  The itemizations can be reprinted if you lose them.  The charge is placed on your OU student account. Payment can be made in person at the Bursar's office in Chubb Hall or by accessing your online account.

What medications does the pharmacy keep in stock?
The SHS Pharmacy has about 300 medications available. These are the medicines most frequently prescribed by both the Student Health Service providers and represent the medications that students present to us from providers at home. We encourage you to stop by or call us and ask if we have a particular medication. The Student Health Service physicians or your personal physician may prescribe medicines or contraceptives other than those we have on hand.
