The Associate Vice President for Human Resources is responsible for the overall operations of the Human Resource functions at the university. To that end, the Associate Vice President supervises four Directors, who are ultimately responsible for their functional areas (Benefits & Compensation, Employee & Labor Relations, HR Information Technology &  Organizational Development Services and Staffing & Records Services).  The Associate Vice President is considered the chief human resource officer (CHRO) and is responsible for the vision and strategy of the unit, including all planning, leading, organizing, and controlling functions. The CHRO is responsible for the units budgeting matters and ultimate performance level. The CHRO strives to create an environment that fosters creativity and innovation that allows the ultimate achievement of the goals and objectives set forth in the department's long-range plan. The CHRO assures the unit's long-range plan is strategically aligned with the university's plan. 

The CHRO is, by virtue of the Ohio Revised Code and by act of the university's Board of Trustees, the appointing authority for the university--having responsibility for all policies, procedures, and practices relating to classified (hourly) employment.  To that end, the CHRO serves as official liaison to the Classified Senate.

The CHRO also works collaboratively with the Faculty and Administrative Senates of the university.  This includes advisory committees and other issues ranging from programming to policies.  Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration's office, the CHRO strategically represents the university and employees in achieving results that ultimately serve for the betterment of the quality of life for faculty, staff and students at Ohio University.
