Benefit Changes for 2007-08
Ohio University is committed to providing a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for employees and their families. In the past year, the university has taken strategic steps to protect the benefits program, including contracting with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and EnvisionRx Options for administration of our health, dental, and drug plans. While such changes have been successful in slowing the ever rising cost of health benefits, the university’s budget continues to be strained by rising health care costs.
Within the past year, the Budget Planning Council requested that the Health Benefits Committee propose benefit changes that would impact the university benefits budget by $1.5 million. The Health Benefits Committee is comprised of representatives from each of the three senates and two unions, as well as Wellworks, Regional Campuses, the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine and Health and Human Services, and etc. The changes are detailed below and will take effect July 1, 2007.
In addition to submitting the changes, the Health Benefits Committee, with the assistance of Mercer Consulting, conducted a benefits benchmarking exercise for the higher education sector. Mercer provided benchmark data for over 160 colleges and university’s nationwide (click to view participants), with breakout data for the Midwest region and Ohio-IUC schools. This benchmark data reinforces that the university’s benefits program is extremely competitive with its peers, and will continue to remain competitive after implementation of the following changes:
