Please join us on Friday, December 6, from 8 to 10 p.m. at Central Venue (29 E. Carpenter St., Athens, Ohio 45701) for a benefit concert to support Spencer Smith and his family.
Spencer, a 2013 graduate of the Ohio University Honors Tutorial College, was in a serious car accident at the end of October while he was working with Teach for America in Detroit, Michigan.
Spencer is recovering from broken bones, a splenectomy, and a traumatic brain injury.
He has made incredible strides, but he faces many months of therapy. He is currently recovering at the Dodd Rehabilitation facility at OSU Medical Center.
The benefit will include performances by members of Black Sheep Improv, Blue Pencil Comedy, and local musical groups, along with a dance medley by Joshua Bryant from Intersect.
All donations will go to help Spencer and his family with medical expenses.
We will be taping this event and sending a recording to Spencer. If you would like to send a video message to Spencer, we can either show the video during the benefit or send it along with our recording.
If you are unable to attend the benefit but would like to donate, Spencer’s family has set up an account at Fifth Third Bank called “Spencer Smith Teach On.” You can donate to “Spencer Smith Teach On” at any Fifth Third branch or mail donations to: Spencer Smith Teach On c/o Fifth Third Bank, 790 Gardner Road, Springboro, Ohio 45066.
