Research & Creative Activity

The Honors Tutorial College encourages students to engage in undergraduate research and creative activity throughout their undergraduate careers and offers various ways to help them do so. The following programs offer a variety of meaningful opportunities and funding. 

Research Apprenticeship Program

The Research Apprenticeship Program allows HTC students to participate in paid undergraduate research and creative activity with faculty members during the summer. It offers one-on-one mentorship and hands-on experience.

Provost's Undergraduate Research Fund (PURF)

The PURF is a university-wide program administered by the Assistant Dean of the Honors Tutorial College. Applicants can apply for up to $1,500 from a total yearly allotment of $50,000. Students do not have to be members of the College to apply.

Herbert L. Baer Prize

The Baer Prize is an award created in the memory of Herbert L. Baer, an HTC alumnus. It is a $1,000 cash prize designed to recognize excellence and achievement in multi- or trans-disciplinary thinking. 

Dean's Research and Travel Grant

The Dean's Research and Travel Grant offers HTC students up to $1,000 for research and travel. The dean considers the student's academic standing and service to the College when awarding this grant. To apply, complete form, obtain DOS's signature, and return the form to the HTC office. Click here to download the instructions and click here for the application form.
