Jewish Studies Certificate
This certificate is an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge of Jewish civilization, culture, and history during their undergraduate program at Ohio University.
In order to obtain this certificate a student must take:
- CLWR 301 (Old Testament) [5 cr hours]
- HIST 328A (Jewish History to 1500) [4 cr hours] or HIST 328B (Jewish History since 1500) [4 cr hours]
In addition students must take at least 16 credit hours with at least one course coming from three of the following departments (each of which is 4 cr hours):
- CLWR 361 American Religions
- CLAS 253 Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic World
- CLAS 255 Pagan to Christian in Late Antiquity
- CLAR 213 Near Eastern and Egyptian Archeology

- HIST 329A Ancient Near East
- HIST 334A Zionism and Modern Israel
- HIST 337C Survey of Middle East History since 1800
- HIST 353C History of the Crusades
- HIST 377 Holocaust

- POLS 250 International Relations
- POLS 458 War and its Causes

- ENG 304 English Bible
- ENG 324A Jewish American Literature
- ENG 334 Israeli Literature
Students must receive a grade of C or better in each of the courses counted for the certificate.
To apply for the certificate, a student should go to their college office, ask for a "Application for Update of Program" form, fill it out, including the program code CTJWST, and bring the form to the certificate coordinator.
