 Steven Miner joined OU’s faculty in 1986. He received his BA in Modern European History from the University of London in 1980; his MA in Russian and Soviet History from Rice University in 1984; and his PhD in Russian and Soviet History from Indiana University in 1987.
Professor Miner specializes in the history of the Soviet period. His research currently focuses on the experiences of the Soviet peoples before and during the Second World War. His courses include:

Professor Miner is the author of Between Churchill and Stalin: The Soviet Union, Great Britain, and the Origins of the Grand Alliance (Chapel Hill, 1988), which was awarded the American Historical Association’s George Louis Beer Prize; and Stalin’s Holy War:Religion, Nationalism, and Alliance Politics, 1941-1945 (Chapel Hill, 2003). He is also the author of numerous articles and reviews.
Currently, he is serving as the Director of Ohio University’s Contemporary History Institute.
