Dongjing Kang (PhD student, Communication Studies) and Sherica Hawthorne (MA student, International Development Studies) will be the Spring 2014 speakers in the Libraries' Graduate Research Series @ Alden. Kang and Hawthorne will present on how they applied Freire's concept of critical pedagogy through a research project carried out at the Ohio University Libraries. They installed poster boards on the 2nd and 4th floors of Alden Library which asked students to finish the sentence "I want to change …." Kang and Hawthrone then analyzed the content and themes found on the boards. In conducting their research, Kang and Hawthorne used the space in Alden Library as a way to engage the student voice at Ohio University.

The presentation will be the last in the 2013-2014 Graduate Research Series. The GRS, a partnership with the Graduate Student Senate, provides an opportunity for Ohio University graduate students to share their research process with peers and professors, as well as gain valuable presentation experience as they prepare for their post-graduate work.

Kang and Hawthorne's presentation will be on Monday, April 7 at 1:30pm in the Friends of the Libraries Room (Alden 319). The event is open to the public.
