Applying for Graduate Admission
- Complete an application form.
- Pay US $55 application fee. For an online application, you will need to supply a credit card number or electronic check (U.S. bank only). For a paper application, include a check or international money order for US $55 payable to Ohio University. Note: The application fee is not refundable.
- For all non-native speakers of English:Request your official TOEFL or IELTS score report be sent directly to Ohio University. The Ohio University institution code is 1593. See English Proficiency for further information.
- If the department/school to which you are applying requires a GRE or GMAT, request that your official score report be sent directly to Ohio University. The Ohio University institution code is 1593. You can determine what test and score your program requires by browsing the degree programs.
If submitting an on-line application, mail printed copies of the following materials. If submitting a paper application, include the following documents with your application. Mail all items to the address at the bottom of the page.
- (For online applications) Copy of Application Submission page or the application transaction (order) ID.
- Two (2) official transcripts3 for each postsecondary institution attended (even if no degree was earned). Transcripts should be in native language and accompanied by English translations. In order to be considered official, both the original language and English language documents must be certified or attested (stamped and signed) by the Registrar (or equivalent office) of the institution(s) attended4.
- Official, final diploma and/or certificate in native language with English translation. In order to be considered official, both the original language and English language documents must be certified or attested (stamped and signed) by the Registrar (or equivalent office) of the degree granting institution(s).
- Original Ohio University Financial Support Form and official bank documentation demonstrating that you have the minimum required funds available to you for support of your educational and living expenses for a 9-month period.
- A statement of intent, unless the department specifies a different requirement for this item.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation written on recommender's original letterhead stationery, accompanied by completed Ohio University Recommendation Forms.
- Other materials required by the department to which you are applying (personal statement, autobiographical sketch, resume or CV, etc.)
3 For academic documents from non-U.S. institutions: The course transcript or marksheet must bear the seal and original signature of the school and school official and clearly show the name and address of the institution, the dates you entered and left the institution, all courses taken (including repeated courses), the grades received, and the system of grading used, indicating the highest mark and the lowest passing mark.
4 Applicants from India are required to send all of their marksheets received at the end of each semester or annual examination, certified either by the Principal of the College attended or the Registrar of the degree granting university. The consolidated transcript generated at the end of the program is not considered sufficient by itself.
Transcripts from U.S. institutions should be requested from the institution in a sealed envelope and included with your application packet. Ohio University transcripts will be obtained by the Graduate College on your behalf.
All documents received by the University in connection with an application for admission become the property of Ohio University. They will not be returned or forwarded to another agency or college/university. The university retains portfolios of students accepted for admission. Portfolio materials for students not accepted will be returned if accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
