I-20/ DS-2019
I-20/DS-2019 Issuance
Students who are applying for a student visa (F-1 or J-1) must receive from Ohio University a Certificate of Eligibility (I-20/DS-2019). International students are required to submit a Financial Support Form with the appropriate financial documents. Financial Assistance
The awarding of financial aid is handled through the program area and college to which a student has applied. Please contact the department for questions regarding the financial assistantship awarding process. International tuition scholarships cover the cost of instructional fees (up to 18 credit hours) and the non-resident surcharge for specific quarters. Students awarded Teaching Assistantships or Graduate Assistantships may also receive stipends in addition to the tuition scholarship. The stipend amount is added to the tuition scholarship amount and included on the I-20/DS-2019. Students applying for 2006-2007 are required to provide financial documentation showing at least $33,543 for issuance of an I-20/DS-2019. If the student's tuition scholarship and stipend amount is less than this amount, the student will be required to provide a Financial Support Form and appropriate financial documentation for issuance of an Ohio University I-20/DS-2019.
Financial Assistance Awarded After I-20 Issuance
Students who have submitted sufficient financial documentation are issued an I-20/DS-2019 when the admission letter is prepared. If you are awarded financial assistance after Ohio University issued your I-20/DS-2019, contact Susan Spence if your last name begins with A - L, or Traci Fetherolf if your last name begins with M - Z, to request an updated I-20/DS-2019. Updating an I-20/DS-2019 immediately voids the original I-20/DS-2019 currently held by the student. The student's new I-20/DS-2019 will be AIR MAILED, and the student will need to take it to the Embassy to obtain their visa.
I-20/DS-2019 Express Mail
Graduate Studies does NOT express-mail the I-20/DS-2019 to students. Students wanting to provide express mail billing account numbers should contact their graduate program for assistance.
I-20/DS-2019 Major
The major listed on the I-20/DS-2019 is based on a selection of programs available on the SEVIS system. The major listed on the admission letter is the actual program you will be enrolled in, and the closest option available on SEVIS, will be listed as your major on the I-20/DS-2019.
I-20/DS-2019 Arrival Date
New international students are required to attend a mandatory orientation before beginning their first quarter at Ohio University. It is very important that you arrive no later than the arrival date indicated on the I-20/DS-2019. Ohio University cannot change the I-20/DS-2019 arrival date to accommodate late arrivals. If a student is granted departmental permission to arrive on another specified date, the student will need to secure a letter from the department as well as the Office of International Student and Faculty Services to accompany their original I-20/DS-2019.
