The School of Music awards the Master of Music (M.M.) degree in performance, music education, music therapy, composition, theory, and music history and literature. An individualized interdisciplinary Master of Arts (M.A.) degree is available to qualified students who wish to combine the study of music and related disciplines. A thesis is required for a master's degree in the fields of music therapy and music history and literature. A recital is required for a master's degree in the area of performance and a major composition is required for a master's degree in composition. A thesis, non-thesis, or recital option is available in music education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements of each curriculum, students have the opportunity through electives to design a degree program to fit their own personal needs and goals. Although most of the courses will be in the field of music, non-music courses may be elected with the approval of the advisor.
