I graduated with a degree in English and a minor in History. I am currently living and
working as a Junior High School English Teacher in Nakano City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
Nagano is located about 3 hours Northeast of Tokyo and was the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics.
It is a very rural area of Japan. The GLC taught me to be persistent, patient and focused when
encountering ambiguity. Since I am not yet fluent in Japanese, I struggle everyday with ambiguity
and communication problems at the workplace. The GLC taught me how to effectively respond to
these sort of challenges.
After graduating, I realized that the lessons the GLC taught me were universal. I could apply the
abilities I developed in the GLC, to communicate, manage tasks, confront ambiguity and cooperate,
to any situation. I know my experience in the GLC distinguishes me in both the workplace and in my
daily life.
