In October, I left the lovely weather in North Carolina to move back to
Cleveland just in time for winter. I’m still not sure what I was thinking.
The move correlated with my new job as an associate editor at Smart Business
Magazine. I interview CEOs of million dollar companies for nine of our 20
publications across the country.
Though it’s my second job out of college, GLC still came up during my
interview process. One of the editors asked me why I was more prepared than
any of their other candidates for the job. Though GLC might not have a direct
correlation to interviewing and writing about CEOs, I pointed to the fact that
the projects I completed in those two years pretty much have prepared me for
everything. And more than anything, GLC is about learning to work with people
and adapt to the environment you’re in. In conversation with another editor, I
found out she had spent a month in Thailand. At that point, I didn’t think the
interview could go any smoother.
Besides throwing students into many situations that allow the development of
skills in teamwork, speaking, researching and writing, GLC takes young
students and turns them into well-rounded adults. I wish I was still in it.
