Leadership Outcomes
The Global Leadership Center strives to develop internationally-minded, locally-engaged leaders in all walks of life.
Taking an indirect approach to leadership training, the GLC engages students in six internationally-focused leadership projects over the course of two years. These projects are designed in such a way that over the course of those two years GLC students are exposed to and develop those leadership skills demanded by an increasingly globalized world. This experience is indirect in that rather than reading about leadership, students are engaged in a problem- and project-based learning environment that encourages the development and appreciation of those leadership skills.
Dennis Kinlaw tells us that the traditional expectations that we have had of managers and other leaders in organizations no longer fit the needs of modern organizations, anymore than traditional systems or structures now fit the performance challenges of modern organizations. Modern organizations are rapidly changing to team-centered structures of empowered employees. Modern, team-centered, empowered organizations require modern leaders. The reality in modern organizations is that employees are initiating more and more actions without waiting for approval. Managers are spending more and more time serving as resources or managing processes and less and less time managing people. (Paraphrased from Kinlaw's "Handbook of Leadership Training Activities.")
