The M.M. degree is offered in music history and literature and in music theory and composition. Although each degree program requires a minimum of 45 quarter hours of graduate work, a variety of course offerings available enables you to design a program best suited to your professional needs.
Within the 45-quarter-hour graduation requirement, the M.M. in music history and literature requires a written thesis. In addition, students in music history are required to demonstrate reading ability in at least one foreign language. All degree programs in the theory-composition-music history and literature area require an oral examination of the degree candidate. Students applying for entrance into the Master of Music program in music history should submit an original scholarly paper on any topic within the discipline of the proposed major field of study.
