Playwright and translator Chantal Bilodeau visits OU Film

Ohio University Film welcomes New York-based playwright and translator, Chantal Bilodeau, to Athens, March 19th – March 20th. Bilodeau is an alumna of Ohio University, and has the unique accomplishment of having earned her HTC BFA in Film in 1998, her MFA in Playwriting in 2001 and her MFA in Film in 2002.

Bilodeau is the recipient of a Jerome Travel & Study Grant and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Recent productions (LINK:http://cbilodeau.com/productions.html) include the 2012 English translation of “Blue-S-Cat,” written by Koffi Kwahule and performed at The Invisible Dog Art Center; “Hunger,” performed at Bated Breath Theatre Company in 2011; “Green Dating,” performed at Manhattan Theatre Source Estrogenius Festival in 2011 and The Movement Theatre Company Go Green Tour in 2011. Recently, her play “Sila” won the Woodward International Playwriting Prize, and was also awarded First Prize in Earth Matters on Stage Ecodrama Festival as well as the Uprising National Playwriting Competition.  

Bilodeau manages the blog, “Artists and Climate Change (LINK: http://artistsandclimatechange.com),” which discusses the need for artists to create work that addresses climate change, while also providing resources and newsworthy stories on the topic. Her published work (LINK: http://cbilodeau.com/publications.html) includes articles printed in American Theatre Magazine, and various text about contemporary theatre and the issue of climate change within the arts. 

While visiting campus next week, Bilodeau will attend Annie Howell’s Feature Screenplay Workshop as well as the Playwriting Seminar in the Theater Division. She will also discuss the career path and practice of a writer with film and theater students in a guest artist symposium.
