Rosemarie Basile is an Assistant Director in the School of Art + Design with primary responsibility in Undergraduate Student Services and an Assistant Professor. As Assistant Director, Dr. Basile interacts with undergraduate students from recruitment to graduation. In her role as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Basile has taught courses ranging from first-year art appreciation to senior level art history and Honors Tutorial College tutorials. Dr. Basile has been awarded a number of teaching awards, including most recently, the N. Victor Goodman Award by the Honors Tutorial College and the Transformative Faculty Recognition Award by the College of Fine Arts.
Dr. Basile holds a B.F.A. in Jewelry/Metals, an M.A. in Philosophy (Aesthetics and Contemporary Continental Philosophy), an M.A. in Art History (Modern & Contemporary), and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts (Art History & Theater History). In the time between her B.F.A. and entrance into masters’ programs, she was a working studio artist and gallery director and co-owner. As a working studio artist, her production work was featured in museum gift shops nationally. In her capacity as gallery director, she curated monthly exhibitions of local, national and international artists. She also served as the president of a local business association and trustee of the local chamber of commerce. In her academic work, Dr. Basile is interested in the intersections of art and politics in site-specific works.
