Browser Help

If you have problems logging in to a Financial Aid and Scholarships online service, please read the notes below regarding system requirements.

  • Newly activated Ohio University Oak IDs are not permitted access to our on-line services until the next day. If you activated your Oak ID today, for the first time, please try to access our on-line services tomorrow after 8:00 am

  • Internet Explorer 6 or above is the recommended browser for viewing the Financial Aid and Scholarships website.

  • We use the Strongest security encryption for our secure website. Please ensure that SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 are both selected in your browser's internet options security list. This setting is not always a defaulted setting. Internet Explorer: Tools-> Internet Options-> Advanced tab-> Security section (scroll to the bottom). FireFox: Tools-> Options-> Advanced-> Securit

  • This site sets a cookie in your browser. Your browser must have cookies enabled.

  • Javascript is used in multiple places. Please ensure that javascript is enabled in your browser.

  • Make sure you are looking at our latest page by checking for the newest version of the page every time you visit the page. (For Internet Explorer 6.x: tools-> Internet Options-> Settings-> Every visit to the page.)

  • Some anti-virus software and/or firewalls have a script-blocking feature that can interfere with some pages being displayed. If you seem to be unable to access a page, try temporarily disabling your anti-virus or firewall (or re-configure it to stop script-blocking).

  • Popup blocking software you have installed on your computer can prevent you from accessing some applications. Please temporarily disable your popup blocker to continue. For example:

    • The Google Toolbar includes a popup blocker (just right of the center of the toolbar) with a button that (if enabled in Options) will say “number blocked”. Clicking on that button will change it to “Site popups allowed,” which should allow you to proceed with login.

    • Internet Explorer in Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes a popup blocker that will display a notification bar along the top of the window area which you can click and select “Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.”

    • Other browsers (Firefox, Opera) may also include popup blockers. Please consult the “Help” function of the browser for information on disabling popup blocking, if you must use one of these browsers.

  • In addition to popup blockers, some spyware may interfere with the login process. Microsoft.com offers the Windows Anti-Spyware Beta (http://www.microsoft.com under “Popular Downloads”), which may aid you in removing Spyware from your computer (requires Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003).

  • If you encounter a session error while on our site, close all the browser windows, open a new browser and try again. This is the only way to reestablish your secure connection.
