  • Campus Steam Outage Information


    Each year Facilities Management and Safety will use an annual steam outage to allow for repairs to the steam system on campus. This outage will shut down the steam across the entire campus so that technicians can safely repair the steam system. We will announce the dates for the steam outages in advanced time to allow for the campus to prepare and be aware of the outage.

Athens Campus – Planned Power Outage

Facilities Management and Safety (FMS) has scheduled a campus-wide electric outage for the following time:

  • Sunday, May 19, 2024 
    • Total Duration: 16 hours
    • Start: 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024
    • Complete: 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024

March 11, 2024 - May 24, 2024

ATHENS CAMPUS - 2024 Steam Outage 

2024 Outage Dates: May 12, 2024- May 24, 2024

During the above dates, the entire campus will be without steam. In some buildings there may be temperature variations depending upon their system capabilities. Additionally, any special equipment relying on steam to function will be inoperable (for example, some autoclaves are reliant upon steam).

Athens Campus Planned Power Outages

Athens Campus - Planned Power Outages for November and December 2019

Ohio University’s Facilities Management and Safety has scheduled a series of widespread electrical outages on the Athens Campus to allow for improvements to the campus electrical distribution system. 

The intent of these efforts is to provide an opportunity to perform preventative maintenance, upgrade equipment in the main electric substation and allow for the new HCOM Academic Facility and Chilled Water Plant 3 to be added to the University’s electric distribution system.  The dates for the outages are provided below and have been carefully scheduled during non-business hours adjacent to major academic breaks to minimize impact to the Ohio University community. Ohio University is home to a number of students, professional staff, and faculty working hard to help the environment.

Campus Recycling and the Office of Sustainability are two departments in partnership with the Appalachia Ohio Zero Waste Initiative (AOZWI), a longstanding project supported by the local Sugar Bush Foundation, who are dedicated to the prevention of pollution and improvement of waste management in Athens. These are a few of the projects going on in this effort, as well as the people behind them.
