The University Access Control department is comprised of the Central Access Control Office and the University Key Shop. Our mission at Ohio University Access Control is to protect and secure the students, faculty, vendors, visitors, contractors, guests, and assets of Ohio University. We maintain this mission through a strong focus on excellent and timely customer interactions and service. Access Control is responsible for maintaining all locks, locking mechanisms, padlocks, keys, cores, remote offline keypads, and online key access systems on University premises. In partnership with Ohio IT, Access Control is also responsible for maintaining access to the online electronic locks on our new and newly-renovated residence halls. All lock work, including combinating cores, repairing locks, new lock installations, and cutting keys is completed on site by Ohio University staff to better service our University Partners.
Mechanical Locks and Keys
Key Shop performs repairs, replacements, and preventative maintenance on University locksets and hardware. A lockset includes the door knob or handle, the latch, the strike plate, the core, and the internal locking mechanisms. Key Shop strives to continually provide excellent service and quick response time to lock and door hardware problems. If you are experiencing a problem with your door lock, please feel free to contact the University Access Control office at 593-1758 or submit a request via the Facilities Online Request Form.
Key Shop, in coordination with the Central Access Control office is also responsible for cutting all office keys for the University. If you are a faculty member in need of a key, please contact your departmental or building Key Contact. Key Contacts are individuals designated by each department or building to act as a liaison between the Access Control office and the various University functions. Departmental key contacts are the only individuals authorized to request keys or core changes via the online Access Transaction Form. If you are unsure who your departmental or building key contact is, please feel free to contact the Access Control office at 593-1758 Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM.
*Note - Student keys are issued through the Office of Residence Life. If you are a new student or an existing student who has lost a key, please contact your Green Residence Life Office to obtain a key or order a lock change.
In cooperation with Ohio IT, Access Control also administers access privileges for the electronic online locks on our new and recently-renovated residence halls. Information from the Housing database is communicated to the access control system in order to grant students access to the residence hall in which they are assigned. If you are a University faculty member and your job duties require you to access the residence halls regularly, please contact the Access Control office at 593-1758 or complete the online Access Transaction Form in order to be granted authorization to access the residence halls using your University ID card.
Offline Basis V Locks
If you are interested in securing your office or building, but cannot afford the cost of an online access control system, our Basis V keypads are a great solution. Offline Basis V keypads are battery-powered and work in conjunction with our University ID cards. Access Control installs, programs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces all Basis V keypads on campus. These keypads include functionality for audit trails, time zone assignments, unlock/re-lock schedules, and holiday schedules. They can be programmed to be used with University ID cards only, pin numbers only, or a combination of the two for increased security. Key Access Systems
Access Control maintains a central key bank system in the Facilities and Auxiliaries building lobby. Contained within this key bank are keys to the various departments and buildings at Ohio University. These keys are utilized by University employees, vendors and contractors in order to access University premises to conduct business. The Key Bank works in conjunction with your University ID card and electronically tracks all keys that are issued to a user. The Key Bank eliminates the problems associated with outdated manual logs and provides instant reporting and tracking for all keys that are in use.
