Hard of Hearing/Deafness
Eligibility Requirements
Persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing qualify for disabilty services by providing documentation from a licensed professional that includes a diagnosis of hearing loss, a copy of a recent audiogram, a description of functional limitations, and recommendations for accommodations, services and adaptive technology. In order to provide accommodations on a timely basis, students are strongly encouraged to register with Institutional Equity two months before the academic year begins.
Services
General Accommodations: Arrangements for accommodations such as the use of sign language interpreters and close captioning services may take up to 4 weeks to arrange. Advance notice to Institutional Equity of the need for these acommodations is strongly suggested.

- referral and liaison with university departments in coordinating services
- services available at Ohio University's Speech and Hearing Clinic, including diagnostic testing for communication disorders, hearing tests and hearing aid evaluations

Auxiliary Aids:
- FM transceiver systems (first-come basis)
- Phonic Ear (first-come basis)

University Programs:
FM systems are available on loan on a first-come basis for persons attending lectures and performances at the Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium in the ticket office. Persons requesting a sign language interpreter for university programs or activities should contact the department sponsoring the program. It is preferable to received 5 days notice of the request for an interpreter. Every effort will be made to provide interpreting services in the event of less than five days notice.

- The clinic offer an array of services, including intelligence and neuropsychological assessment, psychological testing, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder assessments, and learning disability assessment. Graduate student clinicians under the direct supervision of licensed psychologist faculty members provide these services.
