Chronic Illnesses

 Eligibility Requirements

Eligible students with chronic illnesses are those who meet the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 definition of a disabled person in that the illness substantially limits a major life activity. Eligible students must submit documentation from an appropriately qualified practitioner indicating the scope of the illness and recommendations for accommodations relevant to the illness. Specific accommodations and services are determined by individual need based on the student's disability. Possible accommodations are listed below.

Services

Registration:

  • priority registration
  • academic advising

General:

  • liaison with faculty regarding academic adjustments
  • referral and liaison with university departments in coordinating services
  • CATCAB adapted transportation

Academic Accommodations:

  • testing accommodations
    • extended time for tests
    • alternate location for tests
    • use of a computer with word processing capability

Academic Support:

  • peer tutoring (four hours per course per week) available at Academic Advancement Center
  • assistance with computer skills available at Academic Advancement Center
  • course credit through the University College for classes listed below:
    • Learning Strategies
    • College Reading Skills
    • University Experience (Fall Quarter)
  • applications and eligibility information for the College Adjustment Program (CAP) available through the Academic Advancement Center

Physical Education:

  • adaptive physical education classes available every quarter through the School of Recreation and Sport Sciences

  • The clinic offer an array of services, including intelligence and neuropsychological assessment, psychological testing, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder assessments, and learning disability assessment. Graduate student clinicians under the direct supervision of licensed psychologist faculty members provide these services.
