Build a canoe. Take it to a lake. Fill it water. Watch it float back up. Sounds straightforward – until you’re asked to make the canoe out of concrete.
The Russ College’s newest video production shows how our civil engineering students made this complex feat of engineering look easy – and fun. Led by Department of Civil Engineering Chair Deb McAvoy, the 26-student team divvied up the design and fabrication of the 400-pound canoe in the Academic & Research Center project hangar. Find out how they problem-solved this sink-or-swim challenge with a mix of creativity and teamwork.
Then, see how they fared in the annual competition on Hinckley Lake in Medina, Ohio, where the American Society of Civil Engineers Ohio Valley Student Conference held its Regional Conference at Cleveland State University in April.
The video is available with other Russ College productions on the Russ College YouTube channel.
