Welcome Back!

Aug 26, 2013

Dear Russ College students, faculty and staff:

Welcome to fall semester! We begin by welcoming our largest first-year class of undergraduates ever – more than 430 students.

As you’re returning, you’re seeing some big changes. Stocker Center’s first floor features fresh carpeting and paint – and we’ve renovated our Robe Auditorium in Stocker Center 103 with new finishes and seating, and we’re working to install power to the seating. New signage is also in the works for hallways and offices. We’ll continue the hallway renovations floor by floor each summer. Thanks for your patience as the work is completed!

Stocker Lobby will also feature a student organization flat-screen monitor. We hope that “going electronic” will enable orgs to share more timely information, more quickly. To get the word out about your group or any other news and events you want to share via this monitor, digital signage screens in Stocker and the Academic & Research Center, or this weekly e-newsletter, go to www.ohio.edu/engineering/gotnews/ .

This summer, we also launched a new Russ College Web site. Many of you participated in surveys and focus groups to help us get it right. I encourage you to visit www.ohio.edu/engineering/ . Share feedback via the contact info in the page footer. We’ll continue our work this year with new department and research center sites.

And, we hosted more than 100 engineers from across the state for the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers continuing professional development (CPD) conference. We were honored that they chose the Russ College for this important meeting, where our own faculty and researcher experts gave seminars on topics from hydraulic fracturing to aviation navigation to help registered engineers in Ohio meet their CPD requirements.

This year, be sure to stop by our revamped co-op and internship offices, now called the Office of Professional Experiences, led by Dean Pidcock in Stocker Center 181 – and the Office of Multicultural Experiences, led by Jody Markley in Stocker Center 176. They’re here to help with resumes, co-ops, internships, and multicultural issues for underrepresented and women students.

Look for E-news every Monday for information on anything from scholarships and job opportunities to ways to get involved. Again, your submissions are always welcome at www.ohio.edu/engineering/gotnews/. I also welcome your feedback directly at irwind@ohio.edu, or, my door is always open.

Sincerely,
Dennis
