Lecture on microbiological corrosion Feb. 12

Jan 31, 2014

Join metallurgist Jeffrey Sowards for a discussion of microbiologically influence corrosion of infrastructure in alternative fuel storage and transportation at a lecture Wed., Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. in Innovation Center 103.

With the growing use of alternative biologically derived fuels such as ethanol, microbial degradation of pipes and storage tanks present unique challenges to industry and researchers. Sowards, who conducts research in this field at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, studies mechanical property degradation of structural materials and fuel pipelines related to corrosion.
