Dr. Kraft has held engineering positions in government (Department of the Army) and in industry. Prior to joining the mechanical engineering faculty, he was the R&D manager for the extruded products division of Brazeway, Inc., a worldwide leader of extrusion products and refrigeration components for the heat transfer, automotive, appliance, and commercial refrigeration industries (the world's largest supplier of aluminum frost-free evaporator coils for residential and commercial refrigeration).

Dr. Kraft's current research interests through the Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) includes hot extrusion of copper hollow profiles, extrusion of a copper/carbon nano-tube composite material into high conductivity wire,  mechanical behavior of precision single and multi-channel tube for advanced climate control systems, development of flow stress data and constitutive equations for metal forming.
