Dr. Madhivanan Muthuvel, who joined Ohio University in 2006, has mentored and assisted several undergraduate and graduate students’ research on electrochemical methods of generating hydrogen and cleaning wastewater. Muthuvel has been the lab facilitator for the analysis of electrochemical systems class. His research is focused on developing efficient catalysts for the electrolysis of ammonia and urea, constructing and optimizing lab-scale electrolyzer systems, and investigating new electrochemical energy storage systems. Before becoming the assistant research professor in the Center for Electrochemical Engineering Research (CEER), Muthuvel was a post doctoral research associate at the Electrochemical Engineering Research Laboratory (EERL) in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.


Research Interests: Ammonia and urea electrolysis (catalyst development, cell assembly, electrolyzer testing), electrode development, flow batteries
