Academic and Research Center
The new, $35 million, 100,000 square-foot Academic & Research Center houses the majority of the Russ College’s classroom space and some research space. Shared with the College of Osteopathic Medicine, which occupies new state-of-the-art research space, the ARC was designed to encourage the exchange of ideas.
The facility’s open design fosters collaboration and teamwork among students, faculty, and staff.
A central living room provides a place for informal gathering. A two-story project hangar with three glass garage doors, a floor hatch, and an industrial crane shows off civil and mechanical engineering projects. Learning studios with flexible furniture, project team rooms for student organization meetings, and pathways with moveable upholstered furniture replace traditional classrooms, labs, and student lounges. In addition, the building's systems will be exposed to showcase engineering at work.
Naming opportunities still remain in order to support the facility for generations to come.
