Risk Management exists in order to conserve the resources of the University so that it can fulfill its educational mission. We are dedicated to this goal and pursue it by identifying potential risks before they occur and through the transfer of these risks by means of appropriate mechanisms. Working closely with the University's Environmental Health and Safety, Worker's Compensation, Legal and Accounting professionals, Risk Management seeks to preserve our assets, whether they are human, financial or intellectual.
Traditional risk management focuses primarily upon insurance solutions to risk management challenges. Although insurance is an important part of our program, we intend to go beyond the conventional by interfacing, on a continuous basis, with numerous University business units in a matrix approach which can significantly reduce losses. This cooperative mode of action, known as Enterprise Risk Management, furthers our goal of supporting the mission of the University. Enterprise Risk Management is a tool for evaluating and negating risks from all sources that may counter the accomplishment of our strategic objectives. It examines risk from the perspective that everything in our environment is related to everything else.
Since we are all responsible for preserving our scarce resources, risk management is everyone's business. Please feel free to explore our site and take advantage of any insight that it might provide to you in order to assist with resource conservation. I especially recommend the section addressing frequently asked questions. Insurance concepts can, at times, be a challenge to grasp. Hopefully, our site will provide you with what you need.
I am available to assist you with your risk management challenges and encourage you to contact me if you have a specific request. You can reach me at (740) 597-1298.
