Fire Safety is a division of Environmental Health & Safety that conducts fire code related plan-reviews for building renovation and new construction on the Athens campus. They are responsible for routine fire prevention inspections and initiate corrective action for fire hazards, as well as regular inspections of other life safety equipment; such as fire standpipes, sprinkler systems, means of egress, and fire alarms. They inspect nearly 3,000 fire extinguishers each month.

Classes on fire extinguisher use are conducted upon request. Request for classes, reports of suspected fire hazards, expended or damaged fire equipment, requests for special fire prevention inspections or general questions pertaining to fire and life safety should be directed to Bill Henestofel.
