Seeking Applications for STEAM Graduate Fellowships for 2008
The Ohio University STEAM (Science and Technology Enrichment for Appalachian Middle-schoolers) Project is seeking applications of up to two graduate fellowships starting in summer quarter 2008.
- $30,000 per year plus tuition waiver for up to two years
Graduate fellows are expected to partner with middle school teachers in the region building computer simulations and games for educational purposes. The fellows will work with Dr. Chang Liu (School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)), Dr. David Chelberg (School of EECS), and Dr. Teresa Franklin (College of Education) to explore science and education topics in the context of middle school science courses. Graduate fellows will research the topics, develop or customize software tools, work on curriculum development, and provide engaging in-class experience for middle school students. In addition, graduate fellows are expected to make satisfactory progress in their normal graduate academic and thesis work.
Stipend for one year is $30,000. In addition, the University will provide tuition waivers to all graduate fellows. The cost for health insurance will also be covered.
To be eligible, an applicant must:
- Be or apply to be a Ph. D. or Master's student in fall quarter 2008 in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology,
- Be a U.S. Citizen or have Permanent Residency.
Both domestic undergraduate students who are applying for graduate schools starting in fall 2008 and continuing domestic graduate students are eligible. Female students and underrepresented minority students are especially encouraged to apply.

The deadline is Monday, March 3, 2008. Applications will be evaluated as they come in and fellowships will be offered as decisions are made. The earlier you apply, the better your chances.
