I can’t afford to study abroad
OU keeps their programs as affordable as possible. In many cases, a quarter abroad is comparable to a quarter at OU, plus the cost of airfare and additional travel. If you go on an OU program, another Ohio institution’s program, or an OU affiliate program, all of your financial aid (loans, grants, and scholarships) applies. There are also specific grants and scholarships you can apply for to study abroad.
I don’t speak a foreign language
You don’t have to speak another language to study abroad. There are programs in English available all over the world. However, going abroad is a great way to learn a foreign language.
I can’t graduate in time if I go abroad
You can take classes to fulfill Tier II, Tier III, general education, or major requirements while you’re abroad. Talk to your academic advisor to find out when would be the best time for you to go overseas and which classes to take while you’re there.
Study abroad won’t benefit my career
In today’s global society, being able to operate in a culture other than your own is valuable in any field. It shows that you are independent and able to communicate with all types of people. Studying abroad looks impressive on any resume!
It’s too late to study abroad
Many students go abroad their senior year. Some even take the summer after they graduate to do a program. It’s never too late!
