OEA Diversity Scholarship

The Office of Education Abroad Diversity Scholarship is awarded to graduate and undergraduate students from diverse ethnic backgrounds in order to encourage their participation in education abroad programs. African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino, Multi-racial and Native-American students are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

Award amounts may vary depending on financial need as well as program length and location. However, the minimum amount is $750. Students can apply the award toward the international experience of their choice. This includes study, volunteer and internship opportunities offered through Ohio University and its affiliates, as well as those offered by other universities and outside organizations.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 Applicants must:

  •  Demonstrate financial need (based on current FAFSA on file at OU)
    • Other extenuating circumstances may be considered. These must be explained and documented in an attachment.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Be applying or accepted to an international study, intern or volunteer program during winter intersession, winter or spring quarter 2009-2010.
  • Be a US citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at Ohio University

 Application Process:

 To apply, students must submit the following on or before October 1st, 2009.

  • A completed scholarship application form
  • Official cost information or OU student budget worksheet outlining the costs associated with your program
  • One academic reference letter
  • One personal reference letter
  • Statement of purpose: A two to three-page essay explaining how your intended international experience relates to your personal, professional and academic goals.

Selection Process:

 Applicants will be ranked by a committee on the following criteria: representation of a diverse background, GPA, quality of personal essay, enthusiasm of reference letters and financial need. Recipients will be notified via email no later than October 30, 2009.
