How much aid is available?
The College of Arts & Sciences has established a special fund to help defray the costs of education abroad for qualifying students in need of financial assistance. Grants may range from $100 to $500 for one quarter of study, with a maximum of $750 for students going abroad for more than one quarter. The amount of the award depends upon the cost of the program and degree of financial need of the student. If you receive a grant, you will be obligated to fulfill a single-event service requirement and to promote your program. An example would be talking to potential students for an hour about your experience.

Who is eligible for a study abroad grant?
Any undergraduate student who qualifies for financial aid according to the guidelines determined by the Ohio University Office of Student Financial Aid and/or the College of Arts and Sciences Education Abroad Committee may be eligible to receive an award. The amount of the Education Abroad Grant depends on the availability of funds and the degree of financial need of the student.

Aid is available to any undergraduate student, regardless of major, who participates in a program administered by the College of Arts & Sciences – you do not have to be currently receiving aid from the Office of Financial Aid to be eligible for this award. Students participating in non-OU programs are ineligible for this grant. Preference is given to students who have not previously studied abroad and who have not previously received a study abroad grant.

How can I apply for this grant?
Complete all sections of this form and return it to the Office of Education Abroad, 185 Lindley Hall by the deadline indicated above for your particular quarter of study. Although a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is not required, it is helpful if you have a current one on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Important information for students not having a FAFSA:
If you do not have a current FAFSA on file, you will have to submit a copy of your parent’s 2005 1040 Tax form if you are claimed by them, or your own, if you are a financially independent student. Please note that these grants are based on financial need. Family incomes of $75,000 or more will be considered only if there are extenuating circumstances, which must be described in an attached statement.
