The Department of Modern Languages offers this biannual program in Russian language, literature, and culture during the spring quarter in even years (2004, 2006, etc). Courses are conducted at the Kitaigorodskaia Center of Foreign Language Instruction on one of two campuses: Moscow State University, Russia’s largest and most prestigious, or the centrally located campus of the International University. Both are within walking distance of Moscow’s excellent subway system. The program includes weekly excursions outside Moscow, including St. Petersburg.
Program length Spring quarter (late March - early June) even years
Eligibility and selection process All students in good academic standing who will have completed five quarters (three semesters) of Russian before departure may apply.
Selection is based on application form and essay, grades, and recommendation letters for non-OU students or previous participants in non-OU study abroad programs. The program director may interview candidates as part of the admissions process.
Application deadline The application deadline usually falls in late October for the following spring quarter.
Living arrangements Students live with host families, an experience that provides unparalleled insights into Russian culture.
Courses and credits Students receive 16 quarter credit hours, including two 4-credit courses in Russian language, one in Russian literature, and one in Russian culture. Weekly excursions in and around Moscow fulfill course requirements for the culture and literature courses.
Students accepted into the program must register for ML 250E, Filed Studies in Russia in winter quarter.
