Teach in Ghana
Cape Coast, Ghana
Teach in Ghana participants have a unique opportunity to gain real teaching experience while exploring the rich culture of this West African nation. Students are placed in primary, junior or senior high schools and develop cross-cultural teaching skills that are becoming increasingly important in today’s U.S. schools and classrooms. Through full immersion in the placement schools, at home and on weekend excursions, participants will learn from and about Ghanaian people, culture and traditions.
Eligibility and selection process
This program is open to upper class Education majors and to students who have experience teaching or working with young people. Successful participants must be energetic, open-minded and in good physical and emotional health. Applicants are required to have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.75.

Living arrangements
Each student will be placed with a Ghanaian family in either a rural or urban setting, and will be treated as a member of the family. The student will have his/her own bedroom and the family will provide breakfast and dinner.
Courses and credits
Students must register for a full quarter of undergraduate or graduate coursework. Course options include:
- EDCS 205: Learning from Non-Western Cultures
- EDCS 490: Independent Study in Culture Studies
- EDCS 425A: Education and Development in Africa
- TWI 300: Akan Language
- INST 113: Intro to Africa
- INST 213: Africa's Children

Cost
Billed by Ohio University
- Tuition: one quarter of full-time OU tuition
- Administrative Fee: $150
- Program Fee: $2900*
*Program fee includes: accommodation and some meals, excursions, welcome and farewell group meals, and HTH health insurance.
