About Leipzig

A bustling metropolis of 500,000 inhabitants, Leipzig (pronounced Lipe-tsig), situated in the heart of eastern Germany, is in an ideal location to discover the wonders of the new European Community. Regarded as one of the New Europe’s “boom-towns,” Leipzig is a rich cultural mecca of the arts and letters in addition to being a commercial, trade, and financial center. Once home to Bach and Goethe, Leipzig breathes history ancient and modern along its picturesque cobble-stoned streets. The nearly 600-year old University of Leipzig houses OLEC, our jointly sponsored educational center, which constitutes a unique, cooperative international education program between two institutions, two countries, and two continents.
“Leipzig, the entire experience of it all, has been absolutely incredible. When I first arrived here, I realized I hadn’t any idea of what I was in for.” Lindsay Brown, former OLEC student
